Location: Madison County, Tennessee
Project Length: 4.6 miles
Completion Date: August 16, 2015
This asphalt resurfacing project consisted of cold planning (milling) 2 inches of the existing asphalt pavement and placing 0.80 inches of a Thin Lift D asphalt on the milled surface for leveling followed by a 1.25-inch Open Graded Friction Course (OGFC) asphalt pavement surface. Highlights of this project include cold planing of approximately 220,000 square yards of the existing roadway and 23,000 tons of new asphalt along I-40 in Madison County from west of Lower Brownsville Road to west of U.S. Route 412. The OGFC asphalt used on this project is designed to allow water to freely drain through the pavement and reduce spray from vehicles during wet weather events.
