This asphalt resurfacing project was the first in west Tennessee to utilize an Open Graded Friction Course (OGFC) asphalt pavement. Highlights of this project include cold planing of approximately 350,000 square yards of the existing roadway and 30,750 tons of new asphalt along I-40 in Haywood County from west of Mercer Road to the Madison County line. The OGFC asphalt used on this project is designed to allow water to freely drain through the pavement and reduce spray from vehicles during wet weather events.
